Salton Sea with BSchoolers!

On Tuesday Heather and I ventured out to the desert with 21 other fellow photographers for a fun day of shooting. It's really such a great way to not only exercise your creativity but to interact with others as a lot of us spend most of our work days alone. It's just me, my computer, and a boyfriend in huge headphones here. The Salton Sea is a really bizarre landscape- just deserted structures and calcified fish- strangely beautiful. We started at the North Shore...

I like shooting landscape and objects and all, but I really would rather have a person in range. You'll see Heather is in a lot of these- oftentimes we end up acting as each others muses out of sheer desperation for a model! It's great to shoot someone you know so well though- natural expressions come easy.

The following set ups we done just before sunset using three Canon Speedlight flashes, one on camera, and two hand held from both the left and right and a reflector bouncing the sunlight onto the subjects face. We started out just doing the trailer, then three of us, and then ended up getting almost everyone in one! Everyone was shot individually and then composed in photoshop.

Pershing Square- downtown LA- Ice Skating!

Just a little me post-....Those who have known me in the past year know how insanely busy I have been. I haven't exactly had much time for relaxed fun with friends- but January brought me into the full time self-employment world and while I am obviously always going to be a work-a-holic (good thing Timmy is too!) I have already seen a change in my general happiness levels which I'm pretty sure is a direct result in a change in my free time levels. I am enjoying life so much more and making time for friends and family and Timmy and all is good! Couple weeks ago a bunch of us headed downtown for some ice skating time- I have to say though the rink is way too small! I'm looking forward to checking out an indoor rink soon so I can actually pick up some speed on my skates.

I don't entirely know WHAT Kristen blogs about but... she has a blog...

What did you do with your rainy day?

It's not often that I get to shoot for fun anymore and I have really been feeling the need lately- so without expectations and stress attached my very good friend Kat Hogan and I ventured out into the stormy weather to shoot some anytime images of her. Any Conde Nast friends recognize the umbrella? Knew it would come in handy one of these days. :) We didn't stay out long because, good lord, is it raining but here is a teaser- more when the film comes back! Now it's off for some hot chocolate and LOST!

Northern California Travel Update

Hi all- just wanted to quickly let everyone know that I am scheduled to be working in the bay area from March 5th-March 11th. If any potential clients (families, engaged folks, anytime sessions- whatev!) want to schedule a portrait session or a consultation meeting please do that now as I have a lot to fit into a short time! I'd also love to meet with some photographer friends if any of you guys want to do lunch or go out on a shooting excursion. I am looking for some awesome new 2nd shooters since I have a bunch of Bay Area weddings this year so lets meet up! See you guys soon!

Guess the guys at google maps finally got to Arbor Dr. Screen shot of the house I grew up in ;)
