I’ve just started my photography business and I’m constantly going through thoughts of doubt that I will never gain the experience needed to be as good as the work I admire from other photographers. I had this thought in mind when I first started my business and thank you for refreshing it in my mind again!

Very nice post. Very very good to read about you and how you started. I agree many people photographs happens in a day or two. But only when one gets into the real thing one would know how difficult it is. For that matter nothing is very easy we all have to take effort and pursue what we believe.

Love this post-very much the same way I started in 2000. You definitely need to start with a firm foundation and knowledge before jumping into the business. I just second shot an all film wedding last weekend, and while I was a little rusty at it, I was forced to think about every single shot completely before exposing. So different from our digital cameras today…

Great post, Meg! I love your call for honesty. I get emails every day from wanna-be designers wanting to know how I got my start. I tell them, I did grunt work in a flower shop for several years, then I studied in an apprenticeship situation for several more years. Then I worked in shops as a designer, eventually as a manager. Then I freelanced for every major events company. After 8 years of hard work, I formed my company. Photography isn’t learned over night, neither is design. The good news? Bad photography and bad design SHOWS. xoxo
