The Hunger Games : My casting

First, a very happy birthday to my love, Tim :) He shares my ambivalence towards birthdays so we’re having carrot cake and a quiet dinner at home- our favorite kind of night :)

I was taught very early on how to loose myself in literature….I am the kind of reader who gets so absorbed in books and characters that I weep for them days after the final page of the book has been turned. I have the ability to turn off every sound around me and completely loose myself in stories… if I’m reading a particularly good page-turner I’ll stay up until the wee hours finishing it- or sometimes wake in the middle of the night just to read one..moooooree…chapter…. The Hunger Games was on my list for months and with a 5 hour drive to LA and another 5 hour drive home in my future I finally decided just to purchase the audiobook for part 1 and give it a go. INSTANTLY HOOKED. Just finished book two and am already dying inside knowing there is only one more book to go …. Was doing a little internet scouring about the characters and came across some articles on the casting of the upcoming film. Not sure how I feel about the choices they’ve made so far- hopefully the screen play will do the storyline justice (UGH for Twilight and The Time Travelers Wife)…. I’ve been pretty “business” around here lately and felt compelled to think about how I would cast the movie if I could…..

So here is how I imagine the cast looking….

Katniss

Lucy Hale (This girl used to go to my pilates class occasionally in Los Angeles- shes cute as button.) The Katniss in my head is so tiny… with big brown eyes… hair that falls over her face perfectly when braided back with dark and deep but also soft and feminine features. She has an unassuming beauty….perhaps a younger Amber Tamblyn type too.

or if they were casting younger …

Kay Panabaker

Peeta

Alex Pettyfer : This is almost exactly how I’ve pictured Peeta from the beginning (a bit younger though) … although I will admit, my Peeta has Tim’s piercing blue eyes. Man oh man what a girl wouldn’t give to have someone as handsome as this looking out for her in the arena!

Gale

I mostly have been picturing someone like the guy from Smallville ..

Although… occasionally he turns into a Tim Riggens of sorts..because what girl doesn’t love Tim Riggins?

or if they were going younger … Carter Jenkins

Haymitch

I might be way off on this one but this guy is exactly how I picture Haymitch… I used to watch him on the show The Nine ..

Now that I’ve spilled my complete nerdiness to you all I must get back to actual working….If you are a Hunger Games fan- who are your casting choices?

Yes yes yes!! I’m so happy you’re reading these and we can discuss them. Agree of the Alex P casting of Peeta; I totally see him in that role. My pick for Katniss is Hailee Steinfeld; she’s such a cutie and has amazing acting chops! Plus, she’s totally how I pictured Katniss.

Portland, Oregon – Film 2011

April is peeking around the corner and dangling wedding season out in front of me just begging me to catch up with it. I have a slow start to my season this year … one wedding this month and really only a handful in April and May and I’m happy to be easing back into it. I’ve been really busy around here rebranding, rethinking, expanding, brain storming, and making lots and lots of lists. It will feel pretty great to pick up my camera again with a fresh outlook! So excited for all of my 2011 couples and ready to be inspired by their love.

Shot some film on my Holga earlier this year during my trips to Big Bear and to Portland. So nice to shoot without any intent at all!

Shared meeting space in Campbell?

Calling all photographers, planners, calligraphers, designers… anyone creative who would need a space to meet their clients in! I recently signed a lease on an adorable little office space in downtown Campbell … I prefer working from home in my pajamas so I don’t plan to use it as an actual office but just a place to meet clients, showcase work, etc and would love to find some people to share it with. It was obviously decorated to my taste so it won’t be right for everyone but I know it will appeal to some of you ;) Depending on the amount of interest the rates may vary from the below #’s and if you don’t anticipate needing the space 4 or more times a month or don’t want to store things in the space then we can definitely talk about a discounted rate.

PHOTOGRAPHERS – 3 monthly rate spots available at $100/month

There is only storage space for two other photographers (you can have up to 6 prints/canvas’s 16×20 and under) at the monthly rate but we’ve toyed with the idea of charging a day rate in the future so get in touch if you are interested and I’ll send you some rate info! Lots of space to store albums/prints/promo material etc.

OTHER VENDORS – 3 monthly rate spots available at $100/month

This would really be a perfect space for a calligrapher or a wedding planner who does not work from an official office but like me, hates meeting people and having to shout over coffee grinders. We’ve got plenty of space to store portfolio binders or display invites and other types of samples to share with potential clients.

Here are some pics of the transformation …

Tim covered up the door to nowhere with a chalkboard wall.

My mom and Uncle Sean painting the walls blue.

Found four of these chairs for a total of $50 and refinished them.

The cabinet that led to what I can only guess was Hades was fixed to a proper print nook by Timmy.

Cover the corner units in pretty paper from Paper Source.

And here it is all finished up and looking pretty!

Shoot me an email at meg@megperotti.com if you are interested!

Meg, what great creative talent you have. I love this space and how you decorated it. Wish we could share with you, alas we are too far away. :)

For Japan with Love

Lydia over at Ever Ours and the girls at Utterly Engaged put together a disaster relief fund for bloggers and wedding industry professionals to donate to and are encouraging bloggers to take part in a day of silence in solidarity with Japan. The goal was to raise $5,500 (enough for 5 shelter boxes) but so far they have raised over $16,000!!!!! … if you can please log on and donate anything you can to this cause… and if you can participate in the day of silence I will be right there with you.

A little bit in great numbers can turn into a lot.
