Bay Area Portrait Photographer : Newborns : Olivia
Little Olivia is the daughter of one of my fellow 2002 Presentation Panthers, Melissa, and I couldn’t be more thrilled for her and John! One of the coolest parts about doing what I do is that I get to be a part of such amazing moments in people’s lives. I photograph them in love, married, when they are welcoming their children into the world… even though a lot of stress comes with these experiences usually there are bright smiles to go along with it and that’s really what I live to document.
You can’t help but look at newborns and be overcome with awe. Awe in how little they’ve seen, how shortly they’ve lived, and how soft and pure their bodies are. Little Olivia was such a sweet thing to photograph and I am just so thrilled to have been there to document her first weeks! Congrats to Melissa and John- here’s to many more memories to document!

Onward!
At the beginning of this year I had every intention of expanding my Meg Perotti: Kids business. Seriously, I have a whole business progress journal entry about it. About how much I love children, how their spunk, spontaneity, laughter, and complete unabashed confidence in their expressions speaks of truth and really shows the world was love is really about. And while I accomplished many many things on my 2009 to-do list, expanding children photography just wasn’t one of them. Perhaps weddings are just too big of a monster to make room? (In a lovable Shrek kind of monster-way!) Maybe I worked just a smidgen too hard this summer and lost sight of that particular line item? Both are probably true, but in any case, this session refreshed the drive to spend more time photographing children. There is always 2010!
Sarah and Brian got married just a year ago Sunday (HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!) and they already managed to bring their 2 year old, Shae, a beautiful baby sister, Ava. I’m pretty sure this session was scheduled even before Ava had entered the world and it never ceases to amaze me how time flies. Sarah and Brian, you guys supported me when the business was oh so young and I am so happy to have been able to grow with your family! Can’t wait for many more shoots of your beautiful family! (And I’m glad I am able to prove to Brian that despite my sculpture skills… I’m a pretty okay photographer.
) Props go to Sarah for the styling … couldn’t ASK for a better client. XoXo!

Watch out Brian, you’ve got a heart-breaker on your hands.

Amanda and Andrea : Sisters! The Palace and Fine Arts, SF
BEFORE WE START: I have made it to the final round of the Pacific Weddings Magazine “Hit me with your best shot!” contest. Basically, if my shot of Helen and Tyler wins then it gets a full page spread in their Winter/Spring edition. Voting ends on Oct. 23rd (yeah I know, I have NO idea how they think they are going to manage counting all of those comments with a contest that long but… hey!) so if you haven’t already and or you have and you want to give a 2nd opinion head on over to:

and leave a comment with something along the lines of, “My vote goes to With This Kiss!” … or whatev…
Onward!
I have been looking forward to sharing this shoot because I just love the feeling these images evoke! When Andrea emailed me and told me her and her sister Amanda (who was in my graduating class at Pres. and used to swoon over BSB and NSYNC and whoever else with me during free period) wanted to get some cool portraits of themselves done as a gift for their mom the ball started rolling with tons of fun ideas as to what to do for their images- they totally get what I am about and were ready and willing to have as much fun as I asked for! Thanks so much for such a great afternoon guys!

Underglaze – Beautiful eco-friendly attire for the kiddos!
Awhile back- like awhilllllllllle back I got to spend a sunny afternoon in Beverly Hills photographing some of the cutest kids ever in some of the cutest cotton shirts and onesies! Maile, the owner of Underglaze, has searched high and low for some of the most environmental friendly elements to sell only the most pure products. The cotton’s super soft since it’s peroxide-washed instead of bleached (better for the fabric, better for the environment) and is from a responsible co-op in India. She describes them as, “antiquarian prints hand-printed onto organic cotton clothing.”
The animal images featured on the clothing are all 19th century and were done as scientific studies. Maile loves the irony of how, through our modern eyes, they don’t look scientific at all, they just seem completely innocent and charming — perfect for kiddies.
The sports/leisure prints are also 19th century, mostly illustrations done for popular magazines of the day, a few of the images for girls come from sheet music or fashion magazines.
I think these pieces have such a timeless, vintage, quality about them and look so fresh and whimsical! Here are some of my favorites from the day- If you’re interested in them check out Underglaze on Etsy @ underglaze.etsy.com.
